Rachel connected with Sanctuary in 2003 when she first moved to Toronto to study theology. The community quickly became an integral and beloved part of her life. After years of involvement at Sanctuary, she joined the staff team in 2009. She holds a doctoral degree from St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto, having written her dissertation on the lived theology of the Sanctuary community.

Rachel feels called to write and reflect on the ways the particular lived experiences of the Sanctuary community intersect with the biblical story of God’s love for the world and God’s special care for those who have been mistreated or abandoned by the world. She is part of the leadership team with Simon and Tanja, and loves connecting with people in the community at meals and individually during the week.  She lives in Toronto with her husband Glenn and kids Colman, Ashlyn, and Caleb.
